Can anyone point me in the right direction in possibly getting ammo from Wolverine Supply in Virden, Manitoba to Alabama??? Wolverine Supply tells me they cannot ship anything to the U.S. of A. and even if I was somehow able to drop by & purchase the ammo, it more than likely would be confiscated @ the Border??

Use an importer, what?

Any ideas?

Difficult to imagine that it would not be easier and less expensive to locate it in USA.
With the current border situation it would be a big hassle at best to cross the border with much of anything.

Good luck!

Ammunition, cartridge cases, projectiles and barrels, all require a an ATF form 6 to legally import. I do it pretty regularly, but in small quantities, usually from the UK. It is quite costly so I just throw a few items in with an existing shipment and it's not too bad. Getting anything out of Canada has been a problem for a longtime, I gave up and point potential clients to https://borderview.com/

To be honest with, the overhead would be brutal and just now worth the effort.

Best of luck.

No personal experience Raimey, but these folks have been mentioned favorably in the past; for both guns and ammunition.

Thanks for the info thus far & I have exhausted all possibilities in the U.S. of A. Wolverine Supply purports to have a Gold Mine of ultra rare ammo, having several thousand rounds.

Well, well worth it. But with an Alabama badged vehicle, we would probably leave a weapon & some ammo in the vehicle & when crossing into Canada they would put us under the jail. Then when we got out & purchased the ammo, then on the return trip that would be sacrificed @ the border for a Net Zero for the trip.

If the volume is worth it, talk to borderview. I think the cost to import it and get it to you will shock you. Let us know how you make out.

If I read Hause's link correctly, for the 1st effort the cost would be $200 and if one picked up 10 boxes, then that's only $20 a box to let them spend the night in a Canadian Jail. 20 Boxes would of course reduce the import cost and I am sure it will cost more than $200 total.

I don't understand. Wolverine Supply says they can't ship anything to the United States and you're trying to find an "end around"?

Look somewhere else, bro.

I don't think as an American you can just walk in and buy ammo at Canadian gun store. Don't you need to present signed firearm declaration form?

Yeah, more than likely you would have to have a PAL.

I am telling you, other than airfare to Europe, Wolverine is the closest option and is 1/2 the cost as in Europe. Say that Wolverine only has 1/2 of the 245 Boxes they note, that's still several thousand rounds of ultra rare ammo, loaded....

Borderview are licensed firearms dealers in both Canada and the U.S. and they physically walk the ammo (or guns) through customs into the U.S. Then ship to Raimey from the U.S. store.
If the previous pattern occurs, it is likely that things will change with the Tariffs fairly quickly. It appears that the tariff is dependent of the country of origin of the ammo. I couldn't find the rules for antique ammunition.

I-Run Guns is another Importer that can get ammunition into the U.S. from Canada.

https://irunguns.ca/content.php?page=import-process-canada-to-us

There are several ATF Field Offices located in Alabama, and there are regulations concerning importing ammunition on the ATF website. Under the instructions for ATF Form 6, there are some rules concerning the import of ammunition for personal use that seem to suggest you may not even need the services of an importer. See No.'s 3 and 7 under the General Information section of the Instruction Sheet for ATF Form 6

According to No. 7, you may not even need an FFL to import ammunition for personal use and not for resale. If that is true, it could save you a few bucks.

https://www.atf.gov/media/22521/download

It might be worthwhile to give an ATF office a call, or pay them a visit rather than seeking info from internet lawyers.

What caliber\gauge are you looking for? And the above answers, which match what I remember, rule out any chance of you getting the ammo without an importer.

ammoseek.com

If you don't want to mention the caliber/gauge in an open forum, PM me, I MIGHT know a source that won't require you going through an importer and I have no gun that is chambered in an ultra rare caliber.

Raimey, I have used both Borderview and IRUNGUNS for moving shotguns across the border. I preferred Borderview because although it was a bit more expensive, they were much better at making the mandatory engraving of importer small and discreet. IRUNGUNS not so much.

Most people I know in the vintage gun world use Borderview. Zero experience with ammo. As SKB alluded to, price can be prohibitive but the more you are buying, the better the cost averaging makes it look. Just buy a ton!

6X70 along lines of 6,5X70R.

My Bad, I posted the coarse/generic link.

https://wolverinesupplies.com/ammunition/rifle-ammo/?_bc_fsnf=1&Caliber=6x70R

My 6X70R insert was slated to arrived yesterday, but evidently it wanted to arrived on September 1st.

Anyway, for 6X70R or 6,5X70R a turned stick of brass or raw unformed Bertram stick of brass is $6 min a stick.

A box of loaded 6X70R Norma is $66 / 20. And I assumed the monetary units are US???

If you are referring to the prices on the Wolverine website, it is highly likely, as a company not pursuing US sales but primarily operating within Canada and targeting Canadians, the price would be in Cdn $. $66 Cdn would be around $47.50 USD.

Any reason you think a Canadian company, operating within Canada with a Canadian client base, would use a foreign currency?

Even with a 1.4 multiplier, that would be even lower, around $50 for a box of 20 or am I upsidedown on my equation???

Anyway, about my only other option for loaded ammo is remote & either have Springer ship some or similar?

I scour the internet daily looking for any components for 6X70R or 6,5X70R and if Wolverine Supply has what they say they have, this is as close as it gets to the Motherlode for 6,5 components.

Factory loaded 6x70R has shown up regularly on eGun in the last months.
Getting it into Trumpistan seems the main problem.

I’ve always speculated that America has such strict import/export rules to make other countries shut up about American gin culture. Like an inoculation. lol.

Just get Trump to sign an executive order. So let it be written, so let it be done.

I'm not trying to stir the pot as I know you all are more knowledgeable on this than I am but what is the work-around they use when you bring back ammo not used on a hunt? It was about 11 years ago so I'm sure things may have changed but I brought back some 30-06 and 7x57 ammo I had left over after a moose hunt.

Just like a lot of us in those provinces. Our federal government IS loathsome. However, I’d prefer those prairie provinces split off and form their own country. Washington would be a better master than Ottawa. But still a master. Why trade one distant government for another.

Just tell them to be sure there's not an Abe Lincoln in the office of Prime Minister when they secede.

Might be a good time for it. From the abstract of the Prime Minister’s doctoral thesis….

“We conclude by noting the primary implications: strict anti-trust enforcement, with a guarded preference for foreign acquirers over domestic ones.”

I have also used both companies. IRUNGUNS mandatory engraving sticks out horribly. Never again. BORDERVIEW is easy to work with, professional, and markings are so discreet you hardly notice.
I say call them and find out what they would charge.

geco,
I may be entirely wrong, but I think to answer your question, if you record your ammo on the "customs" forms when you leave the US, and bring the unused ammo and possibly the "spent cases" back, you should be allowed to return with it.

Considering >>BORDERVIEW<<, would it be better to drive up to their U.S of A. facility and just pick up the ammo, should they get it across?

Borderview is a very long way from you. They are located at the border, just south of Vancouver in Washington state. That would be a VERY long road trip for you.

Could be wrong but I'm doubting ammo is on Trump's radar. Not really an industry the powers that be in Canada are trying to promote.
