Gentlemen, I have about 1000 empty, once-fired, then reloaded, then unloaded 3006 brass cases that have an oxidation coating. I would like to know if I should scrap them or if they're worth more. Scrapping is easiest, but for the trip to the recycling facility. What do you think? Thank you.

Have you tumbled them? It’s amazing how they brighten up. Some in a few hours, some in a few days.

Doubt it has enough value to bother with selling for use or scrap.

Not current on scrap prices. But I do find it hard to believe it would bring enough to make it worth it unless the scrapper was a normal stop for you. Also find it hard to believe someone wouldn’t want it —- but I totally understand. It’s one of the most common brasses available and thus not worth a whole lot.
Spent several years cleaning a public range and selling off collected brass. 30-06 would sell when packaged back in original boxes with matching Head stamps, but everything else sold for more and faster.

Add on. - Also if we are talking scrap prices, everywhere I ever went required you to deprime them all. 30-06 is so common and so versatile I used it for a number of reforming scenarios that may not have been the first choice 9.3x 62 and 358 Win come to mind.

I've done a lot of brass scrapping since I was a young guy. I remember when it was just considered yellow brass, but it now is in its own category. It presently brings about $ 3.30 in our area. You don't want any live ammo present or live primers. Pop the primers in a rifle or deprime them. Tarnish does not matter since they are melted anyway.

Google agrees with Tanky re value and separate category for scrap brass from cartridges. My local scrap guy is fine with spent primers in the brass. As said, just no live primers or rounds.

A pile of fired 30-06 cases is a tremendous asset to a handloader of wildcat/obsolete/metric cartridges, as well as current ones. Save them all, if you can't use them maybe your grand or great grandkids can use them. In fact, it is an asset to have a quantity of different head sizes, lengths, and rim type cases on hand. Thet don't eat anything and a little tarnish or dust doesn't hurt anything.

graybeardtmm3. I can confirm this is true based on repeated anecdotal evidence. I'm keeping about 100 cases, though selling my 06.
