Herr Ungewitter already gained lasting fame by somehow participating in the creation of the groundbreaking and hugely successful Bleistiftpatrone which is still discussed and reloaded today! Why trying to find / postulate further achievements? (...) No mention of any Gutsbesitzer.
Google gives you several Grundakten, where he is correctly addressed as such. Now, the modest Gut Roßdorf must not be construed as something like Ostelbisches Junkerland, e.g. say Schloß Dohna, but the iron foundry there (Eisenhammer) may have been a foundation of Alfred's father or forefathers. When he was born however, small-scale iron manufacture was no longer lucrative.
Whether the still existing Ungewitter Stiftung at the University of Göttingen (Faculty of Physics) has anything to do with his family, I leave open. My guess is a "yes".
