Yeah, a couple hundred £s #6835 -@ about 28 minutes in looks to be a Charm probably w/ 73 cm tubes. It has what the British Kat refers to as a >>1/2 Moon<< character on the safety.

Second to last gun, French box lock by Gaute made for a Bordeaux Armurier with "Wonder" barrels.



I own a French "Wonder" gun, made in Saint-Etienne. Per FAB the trademark was Parisian:

Oddly enough, there was a Hugo Kirchner, barrel maker, from about WWI forward.

I am sure there was a long line of Kirchner mechanics.

I thought I heard the Holt's Kat say the Novotny safety had a »Cresent Moon« and so does a J. Springer's Erben Kombo made in Vejprty.



With assistance from Gemini via KI-„Künstliche Intelligenz“/AI(Pseudo), Wolfgang was easily able to find that the »Cresent Moon« was an across the board symbol for safety; noting safe or dormant under the moon. I guess every mechanic knew the symbol but it was news to me?

Anyone else have knowledge of the >>Cresent Moon<< representing Safe?

Possibly because the Full Moon was known as a time of danger?

I remember a Custody Sergeant remarking to me that she had noticed that their customers seemed to behave even worse when the moon was full.

For sure indeed. Thanks for the comment. I do wonder if the symbol of the Crescent Moon was common knowledge among mechanics. The two I mentioned had Czech roots. But I had never noticed such prior.

Mr. Neuberger of Vienna gives that although he too hasn't seen such, but his Best Guess is that it was intended for a customer in the Osman Empire. Maybe, Maybe not. I don't think Barrister Robert Christ was of the Osman Empire, but stranger things have happened.
