I think the motivation is to simply make the forum what it is purportedly intended be, rather than some polemic dominated other thing.
The forum was decidedly different 20-25 years ago. Tho the same can be said of the world. Perhaps the present here is a reflection of the generally degraded civilized discourse currently pervasive in most things everyday.
