The forum was different 20-25 years ago. When I first joined, it was different people attacking each other, but I think there were more Conservatives back then.
There was even a sub-forum called Misfires where people could and did post off-topic and Political things. It often got pretty heated, and some of the feuds that persist today began back then.
However, some of the Liberal Left weenies who couldn't stand being bombarded with facts that shined an unflattering light on their anti-gun Democrats predictably cried to Dave, and started demanding that he should end the Misfires forum. Then when he finally did end it, the same crybabies wanted any access to it permanently deleted, so they could then deny their own words. Again, people of the same ilk demanded Censorship.
After they got their way, they cried like babies again when some Political and Gun Rights topics began to appear in the main DoubleGun forum. And when Dave decided to add a "2nd Amendment Informational Thread" that was Pinned to the top of the topics page, many of them cried about that too. And several of them decided that the best way to get rid of such an evil thing as a 2nd Amendment Thread in a firearms forum would be to disrupt it as often as possible, and keep up sustained crying to Dave.
Dr. Wanker made his Liberal Left points and insults heard in both Misfires and the main DoubleGun forum. I saved a lot of Misfires before it was apparently deleted, and Dr. Wankers Posts that contain his idea of civilized discourse can still be found in the archives. But it just isn't fair to go back and Post the truth... Better we should just manufacture QUOTES and post lies in order to get our way.
Anyway, here's just one small example of Dr. Wanker engaging in a polite discussion and debate with a former member who says he left due to continual attacks and Thread disruptions from the Liberal Left:

Even having that link on this board is more damning than anything I'd care to see here.

Now here's the narcissist Dr. Wanker politely informing us that the only reason he comes to this forum is to laugh at all of the rubes and boobs he feels superior to:

I certainly have no desire to be categorized in that manner. I have no problem saying that the inhabitants of this bbs are almost uniformity preening poseurs "collecting" insignificant and abused examples of firearms that few if any would otherwise GAF about, and massively dedicated to the "sow's ear" concept of acquisition enhancement. Whenever I need a laff this is the place I come to. Top of that list are those who post questions and ignore any answer that does not agree w/ whatever erroneous preconception they have already decided to be the case. Sort of the Darwin Awards section of the gun world.

The sad truth is that the getting re-elected hinges on nothing more than a pragmatic what works and as soon as it is politically expedient gun owners will finds themselves friendless and alone - and likely gunless. Just recall that not long ago the cons controlled WH and Congress and how much good came in your direction then. The NRA has been nobody's' friend except themselves (new buildings, pay raises, etc) for decades and has done nothing to promote some rational approach to opposing the anti's. But they have managed to promote the nutcase-with-a-gun image in so effective a way that I have to wonder who they really represent.
and nothing says ReTard like Trump, et al. Or I should say "screams".
