A 31L with a solid rib, does seem like an odd combination. I would have guessed solid ribs to be discontinued by 1947. I am sure you know, that a high percentage of 31L's have a crack, at the bottom of the receiver, where the magazine tube is pressed into it. I have never seen one that showed any sign of the tube being loose, or causing any function problems.
I would love to find a TC! I have never even seen one. Only a few that were made up trap guns with Simmons ribs and restocked with high combs.
Do you have any information on things, like when solid ribs were discontinued? When was the transition to the long trigger gaurd? When was the change to the uncheckered, ringed forend? When was the L introduced?
