Members of the Historical Breechloading Small Arms Association, including myself, were very kindly invited to participate in the British Militaria Forum’s 2026 Victorian Rifleman Shoot brilliantly hosted by Greensleeves Rifle Club on Friday and Saturday at their range at Stoke Orchard in Gloucestershire.
Fortunately this Video does not show my scores, but I can be seen just after the Matchlock Musket firing an original (sadly not mine) Regimental marked Pattern 1842 Musket.
Later on I am the left handed firer shooting my .303” Martini-Metford Artillery Carbine III.
It was converted from an 1882 Mark II Martini-Henry in 1896 by BSA, and in May 1900 (still in Queen Victoria’s Reign) was issued at Ladysmith to 3 Field Troop, Royal Engineers when they were formed from the personnel of the Balloon Troop.
I used to be a member of Greensleeves over 55 years ago before moving away from Gloucestershire.
At that time the range at Stoke Orchard was the 30 yard zeroing range that had belonged to the WW2 RAF airfield.
It was at 90 degrees to the alignment of the new 25/50/75/100 yard and 100 metre range which Greensleeves constructed in the 1990’s and have since improved with the covered 100 metre firing point.
The butts are now buried in the right hand wall of the range level with the 25 yard firing point.
One of those participants looked for the world like Kevin McCormack, a participant on here , and the PGCA and AHFCA forums, from time to time. Most likely just a coincidence.
