I used them before with a modicum of success. I tried them recently and missed easy targets, so I shot a point of impact test and found the right barrel very low and the left a little high. I am going to try in a different gun but was also thinking of switching barrels just to see if it would make a difference.

Also try different ammo if you have some, that can affect point of impact. When I was having problems hitting birds with my Greener Martini shotgun I found that a 1 oz load at 1175 patterned 3" low and 3" to the right. A 1 oz load at 1250 patterned dead center.

Sub-guage inserts always seemed like a rather expensive solution to a problem that was easily solved by just grabbing a different shotgun.

I will get a chance to try them because I recently bought a nice orphan set of Damascus G grade Lefever barrels. I've been looking for a set in 16 ga. for years, and a set popped up that the seller apparently knew nothing about. They appeared to be 16 gauge barrels, but had what appeared to be sub-gauge inserts in both chambers. The seller said he thought they were .410 barrels, but of course, Syracuse Lefevers were never made in .410 bore. There was only one other bidder, so I got them for well under $100.00 shipped, and was delighted that they had a very nice set of .410 Savage Model 412F inserts with the blued steel tubes. The 16 gauge Damascus barrels turned out to be pretty nice, with a bit of frosting in the left bore, and a small dent that I can easily remove.
