I've competed in S X S events for decades.

Some have been strictly S X S events, and some have been S X S concurrents at larger NSCA sporting clay events. I've noticed the guns that were used, and the guns that won. I've won numerous events and concurrents myself.

But, I have never, not once, seen a "fine British best" gun win an event. I have seen them used in the competitions. I have even seen one make it to the shootoff. But, I have never seen one win.

So, what is to be gleaned of this? I have my opinion, but I will reserve it for now.

Could be lots of reasons:

They don't tend to be owned by the kinds of folks who grind targets.

The kind of folks who grind targets feel there's better options.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a fine British Best set up for clays. I've seen some live bird guns (I own one, but I'm never going to be a threat to win a competition.)

The American team won the 1901 International Match, beating the best of England and Scotland with their 'machine made' doubles - mostly Parkers
A summary is at the top here, and scroll down a bit for sour grapes commentary by the British press

OTOH English SxS pigeon guns were highly regarded at Monte Carlo and rings worldwide. They are now mostly > 125 years old however

It might be the Indian, not the arrow.

So, they only break when they win?

Try to keep up, eddie. I said I've seen them competing numerous times. I said I've never seen one WIN.

Maybe you should get a handle on reading comprehension before you post your ignorant replies.

It's usually a combination of a "sharp" Indian and a gun that fits him well, i.e. it shoots where he looks.

The late Cyril Adams shot his 34" Super Grant hammer gun and won a lot of Helice and pigeon matches

These new super doubles designed for clay shooting has no place in true side by side events. They are nothing but an extension of their O/U's they own and shoot.
