We are so overrun with deer here that I would welcome CWD. They are nothing short of a nuisance.
I believe your statement of the situation, but the conclusion might seem to be intended a bit too.... maybe a bit too provocatively?
We have too many foxes here, also in urban and peri-urban spaces (and increasing numbers of golden jackals, Canis aureus), but I would not wish back rabies either.
In a hunting system like that of most US states and in these states, in many areas, namely license hunting, a real reduction of numbers needs tweaking the system, rather than tweaking the hunters. It could mean unlimited "tags", it could mean longer seasons. It could mean a higher precentage of female animals. And yes, allowing a modest commercialization of venison (even if it is limited regionally) would definitely rank high on the agenda too, methinks.
