Two of my grandsons live in a state where the only thing worse than guns are the people who own them. So every time they visit the Colorado cousins we spend as much time as we can shooting and reloading, cleaning and learning. My normal choice of a “starter” SxS is a short stocked NID with a recoil pad. But yesterday, as I packed for a morning at the range, I also slipped an 125 year old NIG into a case and included it. As the boys took turns the 7 year old noticed the unopened case and wanted to know what was inside. I deflected him with a vague answer but he wouldn’t be satisfied. He kept asking (just what I wanted BTW) and soon they all were interested. So I pulled out the hammer double and immediately they circled around and wanted to know all about it.

Then came the inevitable question: “Can we shoot it?”

“Sure.”

They were all excited and as lunch time approached and we headed for town, the conversation was all about the hammer gun and how it was sooo much better. They decided that the oldest’s judgement was the best. “It’s just more satisfying.”

Life is looking up at our house this morning. 😎
