Grandmother Myrtice Vera McCaskill (Defuniak Springs), the first woman ever to serve in the Florida legislature (as reader of bills). She ran for the house before women had the vote: (She told the story years later that she was 18 years old then - the governor invited her into his office, put his hand on her knee and said, Ms. McCaskill what do you want?" She ran out of the office - when she was 80 she opined that she should have said, "Governor what do you offer?"
