The barrels are an interesting pattern called English Damascus Twist, Damas Anglais Coupe’ and (by Ferlach) Gebrochener Englischer Damast
It was also offered on the Colt Model of 1878 hammer gun, but I have not seen it, nor was it listed on later Remington hammer guns.
I don't know how the tube makers fabricated the patten, but it was apparently only one rod.

It’s interesting that there are no visible ribband welds.

Neat old gun. I'd be curious about the dimensions and the weight if you have the means? Many of the earlier guns had 3-3 1/2 inch drop, how did this one fare?

It has nice measurables, comb 1 5/8, heel 2 1/2, LOP 13 15/16. I didn’t mention lightweight, 8 lbs 10 oz. Reasonable chokes, R .014, L .017. Minimum wall thickness L .038 R .033.

Very nice dimensions on an exceptional example, thank you for that.

30-inch tubes I presume?

The lightest American hammer gun that I own is an "O" Grade, 1 frame, straight gripped Parker from 1887 and it tips the scales at 7lbs6. The lightest hammergun in my quiver is an early British gun (an 1865 Lang) at 6lbs5. All are 12s of course and all of them have 30-inch tubes.

Your Whimore is lovely but it is quite substantial at almost 9 lbs. American guns were made to endure harsher use, I suspect.

Thought it would be interesting to measure the distance between the fireing pins for comparison to Parker frames. 1 1/16” is equivalent to a Parker 1/2 frame.
