Over on my bamboo rod webpage the weather is a hot topic these days and I get that because the media is hyping this endlessly. I try to ignore it but it's a constant drone anymore and occasionally it "gets my goat" (as my maternal grandmother used to say).

The classic example of all this is this article....

https://www.breitbart.com/entertain...ay-predicts-food-supply-doomed-this-year

My apologies if this is a bit too-far afield and I assume Dave will correct this as needed.

It seems this latest "Sky is falling" hysteria was summed up very well in the first paragraph of the article you linked:

"When not burning tons of carbon jetting the 5,000 miles between his mansion in Los Angeles and his luxury estate in Ireland, Hollywood’s Adam McKay gets off spreading fear porn about the imminent death of the world’s food supply"

Then it goes on to note this Climate Chicken Little has a 0-54 record in his predictions... about as accurate as Al Gore. I'll betcha he votes solid Democrat.

That prediction will no doubt put guys like DimmyW into a total tizzy, I'd be more concerned about another Carrington Event, a 6 mile diameter asteroid impact, or a cracked Ithaca Flues frame than some weather disturbance that would most likely tend to disrupt itself before it caused a massive existential global crop failure.

Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug

Lloyd,
Tony Heller has been on this for decades. Most people probably don’t realize that the Biden administration took down all government weather data prior to 1979, claiming it was “unreliable”. The actual problem was it demonstrated that actual patterns are difficult to document the further back you look. They were interested in a narrative, not data.

Tony gleefully pointed out that he had saved every single data point going back to the beginning of the records. Because, he has been at this long enough to know they are crooks. Further, he uses that data to mercilessly skewer the grifters that attempt to profit off the continuing climate scam.

I check it a few times a week. He has a great sense of humor, as well.

Driest winter and the lowest snow pack since I moved here in '94, possible exception being 2002 when I was traveling abroad. Crazy how the divide is brown already.

I have had the heat off and the doors open for the last two months, that is not normal at 8200 ft in Colorado.

YMMV.

Out here in Colorado, a La Nina (the little girl) year means a colder Pacific and that usually translates to a mild winter here (the weather pattern that sets up then drives the usual winter storms from the Gulf of Alaska more north and splits the jetstream, leaving Colorado high & dry, like we've had this last winter (we've actually had almost no winter) which has folks very concerned about droughts and forest fires. A La Nina winter usually means that the northern tier and northeastern states get a rather bad winter, which has occurred this year as well.

An El Nino (the little boy) year means a warmer Pacific, which tends to give us a more-normal winter experience here. Now what exactly a "Super" El Nino means for us here is still unknown. I'm presuming the "super" part means a much warmer Pacific but just how that affects the weather in CONUS (Continental US of A) seems to be uncertain, unless you're a "fear-porn" monger and you're determined to scare the bejesus out of the uninformed general public.

Let me make something clear here, I actually admire genuine meteorologists as they are practicing a "real" science (well...maybe) that is critical to aviation, and farmers, and anybody else that the weather can desperately affect. What I have zero-time for is the fakers and the corrupt forces in our sadly now-mainstream media that use phony weather "data" to manipulate the public.

Another thing that I'm mildly concerned about is how it will affect the weather up in Nowhere, Minnesota this coming Fall. We've had very warm and dry autumnal weather for the last few years up there now (which overall I'm very pleased with, of course) so I do hope this new "super" phenomenon won't muck-up all my plans for the coming season up there.

Can anybody here elaborate on any of that for me? Any ametuer (or real) meteorologists here?

Lloyd--As you know, everyone around here is talking about the warm/dry fall, winter & spring we've been experiencing.

I'm a 68-year-old native Coloradan and my 96yr old mother was born here in 1930. She was born in the era of both the great depression and the dust bowl. Between the two of us we've seen many dry/warm winter spells along with just as many nasty winters that you think will never end. With that said, this winter beat them all for warm & dry. I only had a snow shovel in my hand about six times for snows less than 3" and never fired up the snowblower. The upside is I was also able to get out to Colorado clays at least once a week throughout the winter and had several outings shooting in shirtsleeves during January & February. The shooting venues around here had to love this winter business wise. Colorado Clays was busy all winter long & only had to close down a couple of days all winter from snow.

You are correct though that between the climate change alarmist & our sensationalized media you'd think the sky is falling. I'm the first to admit that things have changed some over my lifetime, but I chalk that up to the fact that this old world of ours has been warming & cooling forever and it will continue to do so forevermore. Anymore rather than watching the media hype-up a 2" snowstorm into the blizzard of the century, I just look at the weather app that came with my phone, I've found it to be pretty accurate & you don't have to put up with the weather babe hype on TV.

Weather---Sure Enough--We're going to have some!!

John:

Try the Classic Fly Rod forum. Nothing but bamboo rods and old fly reels. If I was generation D I'd have included a link but...
