Does anyone have any recommendations for suhler rings. I have a double rifle with suhler bases and would like to mount a scope without paying $1100 for rings.

851c,
Both EAW and ERA make swing mount conversions for Suhler bases. In the first place, there is a great saving in the cost of labor and maybe some in parts. Equally important, swing mounts give a much greater choice of scopes than clawmounts would. The clawmount bases would have been placed to fit a particular scope and even if you knew what that was, there is small chance you could find another one or one similar enough to be useable. Swing mounts free you from many problems.

This was the RIGHT answer to a thoroughly WRONG question.

Mike, be thanked.

Mike, thanks. I have heard of both. I tried EAW and from their webpage, they don't have a dealer or gunsmith in the US. Unfortunately, their catalog is in German. I have emailed them to see if they actually have a US contact.

I didn't have much luck with ERA but will keep looking.

I know I could mount a US scope system but would like to keep this more original -

Mike,
I just checked NECG and they handle EAW rings.

851c,
NECG can also acquire ERA rings, which are generally a little bit cheaper. NECG can do the work for you, and they seem to be helpful and do good work if a little "pricey". There are a couple different ways to make the conversion to swing mounts, at least one of which can be returned to the original clawmount bases if desired. Generally, the "original claw mounts" are not original to the rifle, they were/are almost always installed "after-market" by someone other than the maker of the rifle. Consequently, I wouldn't worry too much about the originality of the rifle. I think you can have the catalogs translated by your computer if you can't get a translation from the company. Often, on the homepage, there is an option for the desired language. Any translation generated by the computer will not be as understandable as one provided by the company. Good luck.
Mike
