Ok, I must comment on the 410 as a starter gun. In southwest Iowa I got a Stevens 410 , bolt action, clip fed , gun to hunt with with my dad. First day out, I got a small hawk with a shot overhead. Soon after that I got a fox, then a jack rabbit [we had few of them], several cottontails and fox squirrels, then a mink that was chasing a rabbit down a ditch. That netted me $15 from the fur buyer, then. That was more than the gun cost. Big money for a kid. The fox I got had three broken legs from my shots. Those were the days. You could not replace a 410. Also, got a pheasant that landed in Little Tarkio Creek. My uncle said [teased] it just drowned, but I knew better. All at age 11-12.
