One of our local clubs had their season Sporting Clay opener this weekend and I happened to pick up shooter needing a squad and a ride. Some will likely recognize him in the picture below. He’s standing to the right of me. I’m in the dark blue shooting jacket. Yep… none other than Derrick Mein. Olympian, World Champion, National Champion and let’s not forget the big win in Dubai he had a few years ago!



We shot a 100 bird prelim and 100 bird main. Derrick is holding his score card for the prelim absent of any zero’s.
His Main score card contained a scant 4 misses good for wins on both courses.

I’ve shot FITASC with Derrick before in Kansas and you won’t find a more pleasant fellow to shoot with. Very personable, approachable and willing to help with any shooting tips.He gave me tips on using diminishing leads and lens colors.

It’s a real pleasure to watch Derrick shoot! Always in control, never hurried, and super solid breaks.
Needless to say, my buddies (accomplished shooters in their own right) and I had a great weekend.

My highlight of the weekend was besting Derrick on one station. My buddies let me know that I had just beat a World Champion! Unbelievable!😁

Nice Guy, and he has a Great Family as well.
A very talented shooter in multiple disciplines, and very knowledgeable and approachable about questions on his equipment and technique.
I have known him since he starting tagging along with his very competitive Dad.

Rick Mein introduced me to Helice.
As stated, a nice fellow himself as is his family.

I've shot with Derrick and Rick. Great shooting, and farming, family.

I remember that Rick shot pigeons with shells that he had custom loaded. The hulls were stamped with his name. I thought that was cool.
