It seems to me that over the years the DIY forum has mostly been used to post specific questions, trouble shooting one thing or another. I have greatly benefited from this, especially when the questions are about how to actually 'do it yourself'. I have also benefited both from the amateur answers and the very experienced professional answers.

Some time ago, Dave (i think) made a thread for 'the talented few' to show off their work, but that has never gotten much traction. I think this is because most of us who are 'DIYers' feel like 'the talented few' excludes the amateur tinkerer. And presumably the professionals among us don't want to just look like show-offs to the rest of us home-shop hacks...

Personally, I would like to see more project threads, either while in process or after the fact. I would also enjoy seeing what questions / tips-and-tricks come up along the way.

So I am wondering how others feel about this:
1. would you all like to see this forum used for more start-to-finish project threads?
2. how would you all feel about double-gun adjacent posts? ie. would you all like to see posts about gunsmithing projects that still involved wood and steel even if the guns were bolt action rifles, semi-auto shotguns, etc? Personally, I have little interest in seeing posts about plastic stocks and erector-set rifles, but I would be very glad to see posts about any traditional style gunsmithing.

I'll post a step by step of how I do leather covered pads after I do the next one. I have posted quite a bit over the years about how I approach tasks. I was thinking about fleshing out a few posts in the gunmakers forum, there was a request in the main forum to see more of my full builds, I'll see what I can do. I have a few personal projects that are in process and I was waiting for completion to post them but I have years worth of photos to share.

Thanks Steve. Your posts explaining how you do things is one of the highlights of the forum for me, and I reckon that is true for most everyone else who comes on here. To be clear, my post was not a complaint about the forum-- really I just would love to see more of what everyone is doing. I'll be excited to see your leather covered pad process. I have done only one, but I am planning to do more in the future.

To do my part, I will be posting about a project that has festered for a lot of years and is finally near completion. I do think I have posted about it before but more in the vein of 'how do you X?' I'm hoping to put together a better post from start to finish soon (even if I have a few tick list things to complete after the post.

I’m in favor of more project threads, and more posts in general about how to do things. Like you suggest, Woodreaux, anything that is traditional gunsmithing, and not plastic/AR/roll pin gunsmithing, I’m in favor of. For example , I learned a lot from all the suggestions for helping Carl remove the recalcitrant screw!

Same here, I would love to see threads like this. I enjoyed LRF thread and would like to see more like it.

Yes please! I can't say how much I've learned just with what has been posted. A belated thanks to all that have done so!

To Woodrdeaux's comments that this forum in a BB about double guns tends to have mostly threads about DIY projects about rifles instead of double guns, I think this is because double gun collectors are really serious about their guns being original and discourage any changes. On the other hand, custom rifles are almost completely composed of "changes". I, for one, am grateful for the thread and welcome the chance to learn procedures used by other people. Woodreaux's in depth answers to other members and other members answers to his comments have added a lot to the forum that can be used on double guns as well as rifles. I believe, anything I learn from someone else, either DIY'er or professional, helps me.

I didn't mean to be suggesting that I wish there were fewer rifle posts. I meant to be saying that there are relatively few post that simply demionstrate a process or show-off a project from start to finish-- and I would like to see more of what people are up to in their shops -- including both the problem-based request for help and the project-based demonstration of process.

Like you, I learn a ton on this forum and am very thankful for all the posts that ask or answer questions about how to work on these guns.
