I would say on something like a Fox Sterly with short chambers those would be just fine. Wouldn't shoot them on a short chambered damascus barreled gun.

yeah, but ted, its that high recoil that cracks stock heads...just dropped two 16 ga nitros off at new gunsmith for glue job.

harry, depending on the barrels, you are correct...not worth risk shooting smokeless in damascus...unless nitro proofed...and then maybe, with fingers crossed and eyes shut...

however, high recoil will often crack old wood, regardless of type of barrel steel...
