A while back I picked up a 1924 Newton rifle in .30 Newton. It's not completely original but that bit doesn't matter to me very much. Undisclosed by the seller (on-line auction) was the fact that the bolt did not match the receiver. It is stiff and balky in the lock-up.

I don't necessarily need a dedicated Newton guy but I do want someone who knows about them and can fix me up with a shootable rifle in the end.

Any suggestions? Located in MN but I don't object to shipping if needed.

Thanks!

I doubt there are any dedicated 1924 Newton gunsmiths but I would believe any competent gunsmith could correct your rifle. Is the issue something that would be cured by a light lapping?

You have an interesting rifle. I have seen a few 1924 Newtons and thought their DST was interesting/desirable as it put the primary trigger in a better position and seemed easier to operate.

I have had several 1st model Newtons along with a Springfield Newton in 256 and 30 Newton. Both are great cartridges though unsupported by the gun industry.

When your big Newton is up and running, have fun shooting it.

Thanks and about what I was thinking as well. If there was someone out there that maybe had a deeper understanding and experience with the Newtons, I'd prefer to get in their hands over the average 'gun plumber'.
