Taking a look at Diggory's most recent on-line Vintage Gun Journal He mentions following: "I now have a slight lull in my schedule before I head to SCI in Nashville, where I hope to see a few familiar faces."

What is "SCI?"

There's a smaller show, DSC(Dallas Centre is/was being revamped), so they moved it to Atlanta. For the most part, there are a couple hundred booths of folks selling hunts the world over. Then probably 50, maybe, with high-end guns. Rigby will bring everything needed for a Safari as well many others. Dig will more than likely be around the Westley exhibit w/ Trigger. It is all pretty overwhelming and you really need 2 days to digest it all, especially the SCi one. Last year the DSC was pretty much a flop. I bet it cost Westley Richards £35 to move all their stuff plus expenses.

But you MUST be a SCI member in order to attend the show in Nashville. For the DSC one next weekend in Atlanta, you can just pay to enter.

Lived in Africa off and on for 6 years more or less - Francophone central Africa and the Sahel. Been on (tourist) safari in the Masai Mara but the hunting ones seem to be limited to the High Velt with lions in Anglophone countries. I'll pass.

Then again this Reilly 15270 - has always had a certain appeal.

Ah, the hunts are from the world over, including Europe & some Coon-Asses from Louisiana. The good thing is that all my outfitter friends, and many gun friends, can be found under one roof @ one time. Anything from Shore-Birds to Alligator. But yes, most of Afrika is high fence, even if a 2 million acre consortium. One just doesn't notice it. You see Cape with ear tags & Rhino too. Now you just don't see HIppo contained as they are a nasty lot. Even Crocks are lured to a feeding pond to be hunting. Say if UNESCO has a 4 million acre consortium, the along the main rivers where the Crocks are protected, the locals will make smaller pools and fill them with chickens, or similar, to get the Crocks attention. Then a paid hunter can knock him in the head. Baboons are a nasty lot too & a sharp & difficult quarry. You can't contain them & they must be shot @ distance.

Lots of Cape, Lion, Sable, etc farms across Afrika. If you fancy a Canned Hunt, I for one am not opposed to it @ all. Just not my Cup of Tea and I'll stay with Parakeets, Pigeon & Perdiz(Francolin Family Included). The Hunt is what you want to make it to be.

But as you say, West Afrika is still wild & I for one have been in the deepest, darkest Afrika running a recon team for Carbon Credits for the IMF. It is still and quite hostile today with the Wagner Group inciting to riot & keeping things on edge. And on the West side, the Belgians and their Rubber Plant effort are the ones to blame, in my humble opinion. Of course coupled with the fact that Tribes just can't tolerate one another.

But man is always doing some odd Husbandry Effort like taking Stag to New Zealand; Caribou to Alaska, Michigan Deer to Alabama in the 1950s.......

Like the Colonial English, French or German Husbandry Effort in Afrika, the hunted game may not have lasted this long without their efforts. The Canned Hunts are a monetary effort combined with some Husbandry....

I guess I should have paid more attention to Marlin Perkins on Mutual of Omaha, instead of Jim, when I was a kid. You can actually watch the re-runs now on retro TV type channels.

Oh, oh, oh, one huge American Husbandry Effort was the introduction of the >>Ditch Parrot<<(Pheasant) into Kansas, and all other States in the Union. I almost forgot that.
