LRF,
Maybe you could do a Lee Speed after the single shot. As many SMLEs as were "sporterized" during the 1960s and 70s, surely there is a donor action somewhere that has already been removed from collector category and hiding in a pawnshop somewhere.

Mike I hear you, however most of the SMLE's in whatever condition are not suitable for conversion to be a Lee-Speed clone. There are a number of reasons the most significant being the clip bridge and therefore a lack of the dust cover. One might say just remove the clip bridge however the scar left with it's removal are not easily overcome. The lack of a dust cover is not the end of the world but it was a significant addition to the LS look.
Now if anyone has a Lee-Enfield with the proper attributes or sees one being offered I sure would appreciate being informed, probably via PM.
Thanks

LRF,
I understand. It is very much a disadvantage to not be able to hold life's precious things in your own hands so you can appreciate the details.

I had a Lee Speed from the factory in 8x50R. Fine shooter. Should have kept it.

FYI, I got a Lee Speed today at the gunshow in Sioux Falls today. Not a donor but a very nice collector, so no project here but it is sweet. WW Greener was the maker. I'll post pics in a day or so in a new thread. I am quite pumped over the purchase. I should be all ready to go Lion hunting soon smile LOL

Great to see Dan Hudson and his Officer model Trapdoors and Bob and his wonder gun making abilities at the show. i truly wish I was half the craftsman he is. Seriously!

Mike it has been nearly 2 years since you posted this and I have been looking for a project that would include a Lee-Enfield. However candidates are few are far between. I did get a actual Lee-Speed which needs no work and I enjoy very much. A gentleman in New Zealand has been trying to help however the world has gone truly bat crap crazy with woke liberal stupidity and getting a gun across the ocean is basically beyond the means of a common person anymore. So I have been building a Mauser 98 rifle on a 1918 Oberndorf action and it is nearing completion. But not to despair at the gunshow in Sioux City I managed to find the near perfect candidate for the Lee-Enfield project. It is a BSA Mark I * 1902 and pretty much exactly what I want. Only current down side it it is missing it's dust cover. So the current plan is: 1. Find a dust cover 2. Have the barrel bored and rifled to 35 caliber 3. Design a peep sight roughly based on the Lyman 36 concept and make it (already in progress) 4. Make a new stock using a blank I have of Australian walnut. 5. Re-blue ...... Of course if I live long enough. I am now 76

Let me add one request, I am seriously looking for a dust cover so if you have one or know of one that is for sale please let me know and let's discuss as it is key to my projects start. Thanks
