![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/42/f6/9xmTu6lC_t.jpg) Interesting that the datecode >>C<< was moved up and to the left from its typical location. ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/28/21/mejnL5Ac_t.jpg) Hochachtungsvoll, Raimey rse

Excellent Raimey. It's interesting that a Belgian gun follows the French custom of engraving the name of the retailer around the underside of the action. This must be at the request of the importer. "Le Chauguette" surely is L'échauguette" (feminine noun). An échauguette (also spelled écharguette or eschargaicte in Middle French) is a historical term referring to a small, overhanging watchtower, turret, or sentry box, typically found on the corner of a fortified castle, wall, or tower." There was a version of this on my house in Brussels where I lived from 1985-88: ![[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]](https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/75705_800x600.jpg) Lisieux is a town located in Normandy about 30 miles due east of Caen and due south of Le Havre: ![[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]](https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/75706_600x400.jpg) I've been unable so far to unearth information about an armurerie named "L'echauguette" in Lisieux. There is a historical society there which might help: https://www.societehistoriquedelisieux.fr/honfleur/

Most interesting info there Argo44. So where or how does >>L'échauguette"<< fit into our sitation? Oh, you think he was the >>Arquebusier<<. Maybe Fab500 will stop by?

Sigh. . .cast pearls before. . .war eagles? L'echauguette is the armurerier - the gunsmith, gun dealer, hardware shop, retailer which ordered the gun . .not an "arquebusier," a gun maker, gun manufacturer. The shop was located in Lisieux. ![[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]](https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/75707_600x400.jpg)

Ah, so indeed there is a distinction.... I like that. Maker vs Merchant.
