Rick Weber will host this match at the Oak Ridge Sportsman Association range in Oak Ridge, TN. The previous matches that I attended were great. Even if you don't shoot, the trip is well it as there are numerous vintage rook, double rifles, and sporting rifles by famous makers.

Rick's email announcing the match states:

5- shots at 25, 50 & 100 for each discipline.

$40 for all, we’ll have a catered dinner Friday evening. (food only is $30). I’ll need a number for the caterer, the week prior.

Feel Free to forward this to a potential vintage shooter.

If you have specific questions – please email me.

Thanks

I have been to many of Rick's matches, and I can't recommend them more highly. They are spectacularly good time at a time of year. When a little warm weather is kind of welcome. That said I won't be at this one since I do not own a rook rifle.

I was lucky to attend this meet with Roy. Had a great time, and as he noted, lots of beautiful and interesting rifles there. One thing to note is that the shooting is standing, which is probably where I spend the least amount of time shooting. Quite humbling. I will be going this year, and thankfully I'm already better prepared than last time where I was still working up a decent load the week before.

Wrong side of the pond for me, but I plan to go to the Historical Breechloading Smallarms Association Rook and Rifle Match at Bisley this spring.

Perhaps a postal (well, email these days) match could be arranged for next year?

Of course we used to have a postal match with the guys in southern Indiana some 15 years ago, but their rules only allowed Black Powder in their Rook rifle cartridges. This was legally difficult for many here in the UK, but my double hammer 32-20 loved 8.0 grains of Swiss black powder; more accurate than nitro.

Every home should have at least one Rook rifle!

HB,
The only thing that this match requires is that the rifles shoot lead bullets. Both black and white powder is allowed.

One of the many quirks of UK firearms legislation is that a Firearm or Shotgun Certificate holder can buy smokeless powder without further authorisation but to buy or keep loose Black Powder requires an Explosives Certificate.

A Firearm or Shotgun Certificate holder can however buy (if he can find them?) cartridges loaded with Black Powder without needing an Explosives Certificate.

I don't see a quirk there.
On the contrary, it's absolutely sensible.

Being a quirk does not make it insensible. It just means it's unusual, or out of a pattern.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
