Well, that just knocked the pinpoint MineLab metal detector off my Christmas list. Here I was thinking about lead shot in game birds never dreaming that what I should be concerned about is poisonous “dust.” I guess next to go will be the 8 million meals Hunters for the Hungry provide each year. https://phys.org/news/2025-11-tiny-fragments-meat-exceed-safe.html

Just as effective is a lie, no real difference in cost is an opinion as to what a real difference would consist of....my opinion of a real cost difference is different than the Pentagons

It is good that the article pointed out that Minnesota uses X-Ray equipment to look for lead, and that doing that is pretty much useless.
If there is buffoonery going on in research, it is Minnesota that will be leading the clown show.

My wife noticed that I was researching MineLab options so Christmas morning there was a Model 35 under the tree. I’ve tested it and the result? It’s already on its way back. I didn’t have any fresh killed birds so the “shot catcher” (read old piece of carpet) under my reloading bench became my test ground. It couldn’t even detect a single 7.5 pellet laying on the surface let alone ones buried in the carpet. I’ve looked into the Garret’s but the results are not encouraging. Since Minnesota scientists are probably going to be tied up researching Day Cares for awhile the poisonous “dust” agenda is likely to languish which brings me back to the original concern: lead shot in birds. Anyone have a pin pointer that actually detects it?

There is no epidemic of lead poisoning among hunters. But they overlook that.
