Just won this 16ga pigeon club gun WC Scott with Damascus barrels hopefully it will just need wood work as seller claims. How does this model fit in their levels of models? Are 16s very rare? Thanks in advance

good lookin ole gon...

oak leaf engravings are interestingly different...

about half side plate engravings coverage suggests middle of the line quality embellishment...

top of the line was premier quality, with full coverage side plate engravings...

Lower middle grade, like ed sed.

Looks like it's in nice, original shape. Congrats.

12s are common, 16s -- not. Scarce

Looks like it's in nice, original shape. Congrats.

Here you go; on the cover of the 1891 catalog
https://cornellpubs.com/product/645/

The Special Grade was a plain quality hammer gun; the Excel Quality, Victoria & The Pigeon Gun Club were medium grade hammer guns. The highest was the Premier.

Note there was also an earlier Bogardus Gun Club hammer gun.

Please post an in focus shot of the flats like this.

This 12g Pigeon Gun Club SN 70847 dates 1896 - 1904 and interestingly specified Waldsrode 32 grains with 1 1/8 oz. shot; a light Pigeon load.
Wolffe & Co. in Walsrode, Prussia had a London agent, George Beutner, in 1892 who established The Walsrode Smokeless & Waterproof Gun Powder Co. in 1894.
Walsrode Gray was a 33 grain = 3 Dram powder.
In 1895, agents in the U.S. included Von Lengerke & Detmold, N.Y., Von Lengerke & Antoine, Chicago, M.F. Kennedy & Bros., St. Paul, and Clabrough, Golcher & Co.

The image is low resolution but with enhancement I believe the barrels are 3 Iron British Best

This one will take some work- wood refinished with leather pad(1in will bring to 14in lop), barrels off face and have light pitting. Top lever spring is very weak.Good news barrels are great on outside, ring like church bells and are a lot thicker than my other Damascus. .125 at forcing cone, .08 at 6in , .065 at 9in and .050 down to 20in. Choked .021 in both barrels. Bores are .673. Gun weighs 6.25lbs

Birmingham proved 1875 - 1887
Bore 16 would be .662" - .676" at 9" (fractions were not used until post-1887)
With those wall thickness numbers the .673" is likely original
Muzzle 18 .637" - .648"
.021" constriction would be .652". It's possible the chokes were opened slightly.

BTW the Bogardus Gun Club guns were introduced about 1874, for the U.S. market. I couldn't find how long they were offered.

January 3, 1878 Capt. A.H. Bogardus broke 5000 glass balls at 18 yard’s rise in 10 hours 40 minutes 35 seconds, missing 163, using a W&C Scott with 3 1/2 dram 1 1/4 oz. 8s.

He did little competing after losing a 25-match series in 1883 to Dr. W.F. Carver “The Evil Spirit of the Plains”. They shot 100 targets each in 25 different cities, with Carver winning 19 matches, tieing three and losing three. Bogardus shot a hammerless Scott.

The last match I found was 1888 when he lost to Al. Bandle, of Cincinnati, on Christmas Day, 1888. Bandle killed 100 live birds straight to the Captain's 95. Both shot Smith guns.
