It has been, as usual, a slow start to woodcock season which came in Dec. 6. Only 3 mornings have been suitable temperature wise for hunting due to Mr. No Shoulders's presence. First two days out, only one bird was seen. This past Tuesday, temps were dog friendly all day and I managed 6 birds found in two hours with only one shot. It was a pleasant day and the MuttPak picked up where they left off last season. Hero of the Republic was soon to be 15 Abby, who dug out a bird 140 yards away and held it until we got there for the kill. She'll be 15 in January. Willa, depicted with Abby's white muzzle across her back, Willa is 11.5. Pipsqueak head is Snap, the French Brittany, who is 2.5. All found and held birds or honored the others. I flushed birds for a friend to shoot due to the thick habitat where the birds were pointed.
