It doesn't look right, but there are pictures of a few such rifles on the web. Plus this same gun was sold by Holt's last year. I imagine they'd know of it was cobbled together.

I think it went from Holt's to Montrose to Alligoods, and Alligoods sold it on GI. Not sure about the order but Holt's listed the serial number and the GI ad had it in the photos. Montrose and Alligoods used the same pics. Steve Barnett has a Coggie BLE in 470 NE with the same stepped barrels to fence thing going on.

I wonder if C&H just took shotgun actions and put rifle barrels on them. Strange.

I could not view your pictures Mike (not your fault -Imgur has stopped working in the UK) so in frustration I ent to Google to find the Holt’s illustrations.
I take it it was Lot 730 in their March 2024 Sale. Very nice rifle but the protrusion of the fences beyond the breech ends does look unusual.
Assuming the C&H did not just do it to look different (not impossible with that firm - they had odd ideas at times) the rifle may have been supplied with a set of 20 (?) bore shotgun tubes to make an all round gun.
I take it that the barrels (if numbered) match the action number?

I doubt that the barrels came off of another gun. I've been looking hard at the rib extension area trying to come up with a way that orphan barrels could have been fitted. The fitting of the rib extension would not be possible as the barrel's rib extension would have been way below the height of the action's slot. The serial numbers match but that could be done after the fact.
