Shooting my 1886 Reilly side-lever ejector this past weekend suddenly came to an abrupt end. I could not load shells and close the gun. I can take the front-end off and close the gun with shells.

but then cannot attach the front end. the ejector rod is stuck in this position. I can unload it, take front-end off, put barrels on, lock the barrels down with shells but the ejector rod is then stuck.

Gunter says something is hung up and if I drive down he might be able to fix it as I wait. I'd enjoy the ride and hanging out in Rocky Mount in the middle of no-where is always un-boring. Suggestions for an easy fix before I hit the road?

By the way two years ago Gunter said the ejector spring on the right barrel is worn to the point of needing a replacement - he adjusted it to the best he could (and I really don't need ejectors). Abe Chaber said he can build it back up. what to do?

Gene,

I had the same thing happen to me with my Green best BLE.

After over 100 years of reliability it jammed open in mid drive.

I stood there whilst every Pheasant in West Sussex streamed over my head to the derision of my neighbouring guns.

The cocking dog had worn to slip over the ejector, locking the gun open.

I fear that there is no easy fix, and that it will take the services of a skilled gunsmith to rebuild parts and then get the timing right.

It is where a spare gun becomes very useful.

Argo44, the first thing to try is a "deep cleaning" and while you have it disassembled, check for burrs and or wear.
