It appears that this is an example of how figure and grain can change quite a bit during the machining and finishing of a rough blank into a finished stock.

The pretty intense feathercrotch figure in the rough blank ended up much plainer looking in the finished product. Seems to have held up better in the rather large beavertail forend. Grain flow through the wrist and at the head looks good.
