I deal with sandspurs by having my Brittanys converted to GSPs by having their coats cut to half inch length just before the season. Otherwise, it's the Dickens getting them out of Abby who resists removal. The other two are less sensitive. I think I could remove Willa's spleen with a rusty knife and she wouldn't flinch. Gil

Yellow footed green pigeons (Treron phoenicoptera). The gun is a gussied up Lyon & Lyon SLNE in 12 gauge, proofed for 31/4 tons. They go cheap in British auctions: £50-£150. But it has a certain slim elegance and shoots just fine.

I live in south eastern Asia.

All the best

Wow.... Thanks for posting. The colour of those remind me of the Parakeets of South America. Nothing like a good Parakeet shoot in Argentina. Then use an incendiary cartridge to burn the tree of nests.

Thanks for confirming that they are yellow footed green pigeons - at first glance I thought my vision had gone weird!

Do they taste good?

I have seen the parakeets fly by in small droves in Cordoba, too. But, I never understood why the locals want so badly for them to be killed. The bird boys will yell at you to "Shoot, shoot!" when some are spotted. I could never tell that there were enough of them to be a real nuisance. Eared doves hold that distinction there. Maybe they think the shooters consider them a trophy, of sorts.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I forgot to note that I typically start off w/ a BüHag from 1956 with tight, I mean tight chokes and then this year I switched to a 12 Bore Belgian Sourced Galand A&D Body Action w/ ejectors & steel buttplate to bludgeon those Coons, which was quite a bit lighter and wielded well. I just need to get a proper leather sling as we trekked 12-15 miles per day. @ One point I switched to a Borovlje(Ferlacher) in 24 Bore which was very nice, but training Kids & Dogs you need the 12 bore w/ longer tubes.

Well on the Parakeets, they are Pigeons(Sky Rats) w/ teeth. The are terrible & most destructive on the Power Infrastructure. The eat the coating off the wires & nest on the towers. South of Córdoba near La Cumbrecita there is a Nuclear Power facility & along the 151 kv or whatever lines, you will find the in droves. In that area they affectionally refer to me as the >>Green Bird Murderer<<. One morning I witnessed a Spaniard shoot 73 in short order under a tree. Several times I could drop 7 @ a time in one shot because the flocks were so dense.

Excellent. They are entirely frugivorous, very rarely descending to the ground.

I just glanced upon a wall & noticed this sketch where my eldest son depicted me Hunting some 15+ years ago. With the bird falling, he was confident I could hit one. @ that time I kept a dozen dogs..... I had Tri-Colour Beltons & Pointing Labs along w/ my Shorthairs.
