At the Kansas - Nebraska border North of Atwood, Kansas. They Pheasants and Quail were much better than in past years @ Atwood & Downs. But the temps were 70°-75° F for highsand winds were typically high.

Sandspurs can really be a problem out there. I have carried my dog numerous times because of spurs or other nasty problems.

I always thought it was good to have a dog I could carry, and I trained all my dogs to be carried. But I can not carry what I used to. It is getting to be a lot more challenging that is used to. I need to adopt some younger backs and legs. smile

Exact same thoughts here.... Stronger Arms too..... But I did note that the German Drahthaar just did not pick up as many Sandspurs.

The Gals & I, along with the Griffon de Korthals, with the 1st Bird of the Morning of the Group and after a Coon fight of course. It was good to see our group up to about a dozen+ with new faces as several of our group have been transported to the afterlife paradise of the >>Happy Hunting Grounds<<. Difficult to see the >>Changing of the Guard<<.

My Nebraska hunting partner has a pair (actually a trio just recently), of grifs. They get spurs pretty bad, but not any better or worse than my goldens. Once they got into a bizarre "burr" that was like masking tape, only 20 times more difficult to remove. They looked like mummies when I caught up with them. We ended up driving 60 miles to a town where we could find better grooming tools and some "Cowboy Magic". After an hour on each one on the tailgate, we got them cleaned up enough that they could hunt again. We have gotten better about carrying gear like that, esp. first aid stuff, but we don't carry boots and I wonder why not.

Yeah, I keep a backpack chocked full of Dog first aide stuff. Evidently the pads on the German Drahthaar are closer together or something, as I did not have to remove any Sandspurs from her feet. Too, maybe even her pads had a slightly additional thickness as she just didn't pick up many whilst the other two had dozens on there's??

Hey all, went out today solo, it was a beautiful day! 70 degrees and very low wind, like almost none!

Down side was the birds were really spooky! Typical late season behavior. Still Addie was able to pin a couple (I did lose one unfortunately)

One gave Addie a merry chase, but she got him!

Used my 12b Cogswell and Harrison Konor

Stay well my friends

Greg
