They have a lot of designation MX____. The only ones with a B, that I am aware of are 28B and 410B. I thought it had something to do with smaller frames but not sure? I have to admit the idea of a slim 28 bore is very enticing.

B means flat rib.

From what I can deduce from my copy of Perazzi Shotguns by Karl Lippard there are many models with flat ribs, and some have the "B". However, not all Perazzi guns with flat ribs have the "B" designation. As I look through Chapter 2, entitled Perazzi models, I see that the there was a Granditalia, an MS80, a MX3B, an MX4, MX7, and an MX12, all of which are listed with flat ribs.

The MX28 and MX410 both are described as having a Very Small Frame, but the book does not specify that they had flat ribs, and no mention is made of a "B" in the model designations.

There was also a Small Frame SCO Field Gun, with no mention of flat ribs. The serial numbers on these models are 10,001 through 10,050. They were made from 1979-1984.

While Lippard's book is THE Perazzi book, I suspect it is not 100% comprehensive. Also, just because I answered doesn't mean I'm a Perazzi expert, by any stretch. I just happened to have bought the book years ago, to help get some details on my MX8.

Perazzi nomenclature is odd at best. Back in the old days they made a run of MX8B guns which were mostly 30" flat rib guns, 12 ga designated pigeon guns and were sold at a discount as compared to a plain/standard MX8. They still even seem cheaper on the used market today. Many of those guns had a choke tubed bottom barrel (columbaire?). It makes no sense to me why a B gun was/is cheaper when they are virtually the same gun as a standard MX8?? Like Stan said, there are many flat rib guns not designated as "B", but when used it means flat rib no matter the gauge.

Yeah, the "B" guns are all flat rib by all accounts. Tho there were/are sort of "standard" models Perazzi would build any configuration that the client wanted. One from column A, one from column B, etc

Like my wife's gun. MX8, 72cm barrels, factory choke tubes in both barrels, flat rib, case colored action proofed after Perazzi quit doing case colored. That won't be found in any catalog ever.
