For sale at Holts SN 26971 (1885) - looks nice (probably refurbished): (This is a true shotgun not a rebored rifle; I'm tempted but divorce is more expensive) https://www.holtsauctioneers.com/as...125+++1512+&refno=233187&image=6E.M. REILLY & CO.
A .410 (2IN.) SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 26792,
circa 1875, 28in. black powder only reproved damascus barrels (in 2025), the rib engraved 'E.M. REILLY & CO. 16. NEW OXFORD STREET. LONDON & PARIS.', the breech end with Celtic latticework, 2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, carved fences, sidelever opening, rebounding back-action locks, border engraving, retaining much apparently original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. stock including steel buttplate, Hackett-type snap-on splinter fore-end with horn finial, weight 4lb. 10oz., together with its period burgundy slip ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/l3ExTp7.png) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/aY2GC8G.png) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/wuAouEX.png) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/CAV0anE.png) EDIT: Sold for an astonishing £3,500 . . . .!!!

I've only seen ads for four other Reilly .410 SxS's: 25851 https://www.guntrader.uk/guns/shotguns/reilly-em/hammer/410-gauge/side-lever-180723174108286Beautifully scaled little 410 hammer-gun ( collectors piece ) , reproofed 2007 and very rarely fired since ! bores in particularly good condition , unusual to find a 410 with Damascus barrels -- top rib reads E M Reilly & Co 16 New Oxford Street, London & RUE SCRIBE PARIS . metric bore measurement 10.50mm in both tubes and estimated chokes LH 1/4 RH 1/8 with the chambers being 2 1/2" as seen in photos attached ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/JqKa7tn.png) 25853. ((barrel would not be included in the sale - out of proof). https://www.holtsauctioneers.com/as...++8556+&refno=++164645&saletype=E.M. REILLY & CO. .410 DOUBLE-BARRELLED SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 25853, circa 1883, originally with black powder only damascus barrels ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/hGnwc9E.png) 26870 (no photo) https://www.shotgunworld.com/threads/410.129974/?post_id=1040753#post-1040753Can you give me a general value of an E. M. Reilly & Co. double-barrel shotgun, .410 ga., s/n 26870 with "leg of mutton" leather custom case? Gun is engraved blue steel with Damascus barrels and a straight checkered walnut stock. The case is a two compartment shaped leather with brass furniture. Absolutely it's a .410. That is all the information I have on the gun other than it's in great shape with clear engraving marks and the case has a blue lining in it. 26911 (No text) Forwarded w/o comment or additional photos by Mark Crudgington, .410 SxS Shotgun, made by Redman, Birmingham Proofs. Note, the stock looks Reilly but all the other .410 have side levers. Without more details, can't totally explain or accept how this gun fits into the narrative. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/Yx18dZJ.png)

Sold for an astonishing £3,500. So much for decline in price in non-collectable mid-level English doubles. (rarity: SxS, double trigger, Damascus, .410, side-lever, hammer gun might have something to do with it)

I question the originality, but it is a side-lever .410 hammer double with a full length stock and long barrels....all the rage these days. Retail price I would say.

Gene,
If £3,500 was the hammer price it has cost the purchaser £4,550 to get it out of the room.
He (or she?) can no doubt afford to get some Black Powder 2” .410 cartridges loaded, but with a 3/8 oz. Shot load will be restricted to very short ranges.
At that price, he would have to be very very brave to risk having it re-chambered to 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch nitro and risk the Proof House rendering it valueless.

This might have been what naturalists called a "sample gun". . .used to take avian game for taxidermy or study.
