Mikey, Mikey, Mikey, quail with a 16? They're such cute tiny little things. Why the cannon? I feel overgunned with a 20g on them.

Is this the Chuck I met at Los Chanares?

If so you have seen me shoot and the answer is obvious!

Actually I shoot a nice low pressure reload - 7/8oz of #8. I hunted quail with a 28 gauge for a couple of years but then started shooting old American doubles - which are terribly expensive in 28 gauge.

Best,

Mike

I'll have to agree with AmarilloMike, in heavy woods without a dog, I need a 12 gauge.... bird flushes, slap the gun up hard so that I literally punch myself in the face with the stock while slidding the safety off and slap both triggers.....my objective....more "flak" in the air!!!
If I had a good bird dog things would be alot different possibly a 28 gauge!!
All the best

Mike, that is a fantastic mount!
For me, there is no 1 gun
quail behind my dogs, Ithaca flues 20, or ringneck 28 or ruger red label o/u 28, or fox 16
Dove, ruger o/u 28 or very old nameless 12 bore hammer gun.
Duck, Wingmaster 12 pump, or ruger red label 12 with 30 sporting barrels.
I dont see how one gun can really do it all, and why would you want it!

Mike,
I've never been to Argentina or another Los Chanares that I can recall. But it sounds like fun. Just ribbin you about the 16. I like that fox mount too. 'fraid my dog would pick up bad habits looking at though. I can't find the intestinal fortitude to buy a vintage 28 either. More'n half the vintage guns I have need some kind of work, minor or major. Buying a high dollar one doesn't seem all that keen.

There is no ultimate upland gun for any price. My upland battery right now to do what I need is (and I'm not even done yet) unless you get it with choke tubes). Problem is for me at least, the guns I like don't come with tubes, not could I ever install them. Only thing with tubes I have is a Benelli Nova 12GA Swamp thing in camo. I will be getting a dedicated clays gun soon though that will be tubed. Torn right now between Guerini and Browning and B. Rizzini.

1. Pristine 1927 Parker Trojan 12GA 28"bbls choke full & mod 7.3Lb Rooster basher.
2. Pristine 1947 Win M21 12GA 30" Choked full and mod 7Lb 14oz Duck blaster/flatland rooster thrasher.
3. Belgian 1924 12GA Boxlock 26 3/4" bbls 6.3LB Chukar chaser
4. Ithaca 1941 M37 16GA Choked Mod with 28"bbl 6Lbs (does it all in the uplands) and gives me 3 shots - still not the ultimate cuz it only has one bbl.
5. Benelli Nov 12GA 2007 28" bbl pump in camo. Goes places I would NEVER take the other guns.

Jigman,
You need a dove/quail gun. A 410 would be perfect. You might also consider a 20g (my personal favorite these days) for it's cheap and available ammo with plenty of killing power for a rooster (in my last 3 yrs to SDak anyway) and it is comfy for days when the 410 isn't working for you on the quail, while not being overly road-hoggy-big-bore for the little birds. I'm trying to figure out where/if a 28g is a fit in my upland hunting.
