The guys at my local Gun Library have a tape measure; they just don't know how to read one. They do know how to install trigger locks, though.

Tape measures are a dime a dozen. The real problem is that our schools graduate so many kids who are simply unable to read one.

It's also entertaining to see how many people in service jobs are unable to correctly make change. Entertaining until you stop to think how much we are taxed to educate them, and that Liberal Left politicians tell us we need to spend more instead of reforming the rot we currently have.

Hey all, Cabelas Customer Service got back to me. My hats off them, no hassle or argument with my request.

They are going to reimburse me with a Gift Card, which is fine with me. I've got a couple things I'd like to get.

Thanks all for your kind words, advise and encouragement!

Stay well my friends

Greg

I worked in the Cabela's Gun Library for 10 years. About 15 years ago there were a handful and I literally mean only a "handful" of guys who knew their stuff that worked in the Gun libraries company wide. By the time I left they were hiring people off the street with absolutely no gun knowledge whatsoever to fill the seat behind the desk.
There is an old saying, "You get what you pay for." Well, Cabela's and several other retailers are reaping what they sow. Paying someone $11 per hour to purchase fine guns is ludicrous. I have witnessed some gun Library employees with no fault of their own offering $400 for a 12 gauge Winchester model 21 in 80% condition! They simply don't know any better because they don't possess the knowledge. Unfortunately, this will continue to happen and Cabela's reputation will continue to slide. The gun libraries used to be full of fine guns. Now they are full of Turkish shotguns and AR-15's. Very, very, sad.

Aside from my one purchase of a new Dickinson through the excellent Tom Bryant at the Sidney, NE store I've never had any dealings with Cabela's gun libraries. I've heard so many horror stories about them that now I have zero interest in looking online at their vintage guns.

I am reminded that there is at least one large used gun dealer that I haven't visited in the South, in Wagram, NC . . . . . Mid-South Guns. It is in my winter plans to make an overnight trip there to actually see their place for myself and possibly do some trading. I have heard great things from friends who have been. Mid-South does zero advertising and has no online presence, unless something has changed in the last year or so. Mike, I think said you've been there before. Is it still a shop worth driving from GA to visit?

I have made some steals at Cabelas due to the ignorance of their staff! Just the other day picked up an UNFIRED 1903 model Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5x54 that had the buttstock carved, floorplate and trigger guard French grayed, then engraved in fine animal scenes and scroll! The work had been done in Ferlach, Austria, first class all the way. Cost: under a grand. Christoph Funk drilling? $1500. Let them stay ignorant.
