In case you missed it, here is Diggory's account of walking up Lagopus Scotica (grouse) with dogs just this month. Worth a read and it seems "purer" than driven grouse shooting - never done either so that's not a value judgement. (And it sounds like it was physically a bit taxing; at least Diggory mentioned this several times in his "use it or lose it" comments):
