Shooting a sunflower field tomorrow afternoon, and hoping for lots of doves. If so, pics will follow.
Thanks, Greg, for all the years of enjoying these threads.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Greg, I've been looking forward to it! Planning a few trips to provide photos. Wishing everyone here a great season with many to come. Not knowing my expiration date, I live mine as though it's my last! Karl

Well, the doves this afternoon stayed away in droves. Got a few shots however and ended the hot afternoon with five down. While wading through standing corn looking for a dove I had shot down I found this! 2 3/16" X 3/4" ![[Linked Image from jpgbox.com]](https://www.jpgbox.com/jpg/75167_600x400.jpg)

Me too, Travis. I've collected them since I was a Boy Scout. i've accumulated a pretty large collection for them all to be surface finds. I've got a friend and I know another guy here who have automated sifters and dig on their creek bank properties and have amassed absolutely huge collections. One of them recently made a sale of his to a restaurant in NC and the sale price was in the six digit figures.
I'm waiting for another artifact collecting friend to confirm what type this point is. It's one of the nicest I've found in the last twenty years. One other cool find I made was while crouching in the weeds by a newly built pond, hunting ducks. I looked down and saw a petrified sand dollar, about 2 1/2" diameter. Solid rock, but with the little five point "star" clearly visible.
Sorry if I got this got too much off topic. I'll keep it on game bagged from now on.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Is the point shaped from bone or flint?

Stan, beautiful chert point. I missed a great shoot at sunrise due to a funeral of a friend. Gil

Stan,

Parabola It is actually a rock type common to my area called chert. Most call it flint but it's not really flint. The point is probably from the Woodland Period of native American habitation here.
