Just ask people casually about their experience, and purchases at a destination shoot, and the reason they end is as obvious as the barley corns in my tweed.
People "say" they want stuff, but in reality, they don't spend. And that's what makes a shoot successful, or not.
Out there doing it best I can.

I have bought three English guns this year so far. Quality sells. I don't know why the Vintagers failed. The Southern Side by Side has a strong following. Maybe they should look inward to the problem.

I remember when Rick's Fall Classic had many vendors. When people don't turn loose enough cash the vendors can't afford to come. I don't blame them one bit.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

The Wellsville event was well attended, but there were some logistical challenges that were not handled well. There were a good many vendors, but not many buyers.
This event was not marketed well and at a time when many folks were getting ready for hunting seasons or training dogs.
If they bring it back it needs to be NLT then the first weekend after Labor Day.

The problem with the Wellsville event was raw feces in the ONE porta potty and eight inch high grass in the tents and the field where the tents were erected. The tents were a very long walk to the clubhouse, a clubhouse that hardly anyone knew existed. The Delanys thought that a Vintage Cup event would run itself without their input.

Yeah, it’s remarkable how many shoots disregard the calendar. For instance, shoots on holiday weekends. Or opening weekend of grouse season. They obviously only want pure shooters. Or at least are only thinking of themselves in a vacuum.
That might be good for the club, but it sure doesn’t do much for booth traffic.
Anybody who is honest about the whole thing, can easily figure out how tough the numbers are for a vendor to show up at a small shoot. Myself, I would never tote 2 or 3 tons of Shotgun shells to a shoot in the hopes of selling them one box at a time on the come. I won’t even try to imagine 50 shotguns across international boundaries. What a hassle.
Out there doing it best I can.

While I was invited to go years ago when Ray P. was having them, I could not make the numbers work for be being a small place and being gone for 10 days, IE: driving to shoot, setting up, display time, packing up and driving back to Houston.
PS: A friend of mind who is well know nationally quit going many years ago. He said always saw the same people just chatting around but for him not enough buyers.
He made a statement that maybe better if these things were held every three years.
As you can see some have fizzled out
Ray tried it here in Houston I know once or twice, total flop.

Will miss the Vintage Cup this year. Fortunately, there are some other SXS shooting opportunities coming up. Later this month, the Delaware Classic at M&M includes a SXS side event. The Fall Southern SXS at Backwoods Quail Club is in October. And I see there are already almost 200 shooters signed up for the SXS side event at the NSCA National Championships in San Antonio this October as well.
