an Roberts, sounds like you spent allota time shootin flat footed, with gun mounted, at targets with a predetermined speed an direction...

that ain't grouse huntin...

bein from miss, you ever shoot at quail, without the help of a pointin dog?

I grew in central Florida in the fifties, when we still had coveys of quail liven in the orange groves...

used to flush erm at dawn and at dusk, out from under the trees...

didn't have no bird dog back then, so hunted alone or with one other hunter...

learned to always be alert an quick...

carried an shot a Stevens 94, 16 ga with cut barrels and stock... no choke...no pad...

little thang wuz like ah magic wand...

wish I still had it now...

That’s some really impressive stuff right there, ed. Here’s a news flash: a Stevens 94 is a single shot, it doesn’t have “barrels”, cut or otherwise. But yeah, those nuggets you just posted give us some wonderful insight into your vast knowledge of shotgun dynamics and wing shooting. You be careful now.

Trying to reason with ed reminds me of Shaw's admonition of why not to wrestle with a pig.

well Stan, ah have in fact wreseled wid ah pig...

ah was 12 at the time an dint no no better...

even ah ain't that slippery nor as determined as dat pig wuz...

give me a reasonable argument, supported by examples of actual experiences and if I agree wid you I will be glad to acknowledge it...

but claiming that a nine pound gun will work just as well as say a six pound gun in the grouse woods, when it appears you never been in no grouse woods don seem reasonable to me...

seeing as ah spent so much time goin up an down dim mountains in pursuit of ole ruff...ah think I know what makes a good grouse gun...

Wow, I'm just a young guy that opened this thread thinking he might learn something about finishing a Silvers pad. I learned something alright, an appreciation for two other forums I read. Might have to send Dave a goodbye donation. My ten year old nephew does a better job of keeping his trap shut then you guys can... geez.

Oh please. Put on your man pants and hang around. It's pretty rough and tumble here at times, but there's always good information to be found in the dustups. You'll be glad in the long haul.
