Using the the narrowest example of shotgunnery and applying it to all others, you become self-indicted of ignorance and self-focus, ed. Most experienced shooters know that the weight of a recoil pad has little to no significant effect on a shotgun's dynamics to be noticeable, especially once the gun is anchored to your shoulder when mounted. Stan and I both have many, many years of experience shooting all kinds of shotguns of various gauges, barrel lengths, and stock configurations, with and without recoil pads, at all kinds of game and targets. We know some things because we've done some things, and not having done the grouse thing doesn't refute them. Your opinion on how a recoil pad affects the dynamics of a shotgun is extremely weak.

It is cute how you jump to Stan's defense. This whole thread it pretty interesting for what it says about some of you.

I bought a nice Cashmore fresh out of England a while back. It needed a buttpad for extra length which required that I cut the original wood butt that was checkered without a buttplate of any kind. And there under a very carefully disguised plug embedded in the checkering, was a lead weight. Exactly 1 ounce. How interesting that the British maker of that gun felt that it needed that ounce to get just the right something. Of course, what do British gunmakers know about the guns they make. All just junk, I guess.

A leather covered microcell, without that lead, was nearly identical in balance. Slapping on a 7 oz Silvers would definitely have messed it up. But again, those English don't know anything about balance - only Americans can know that. That's why a Rem 870 is the superior of any English gun ever made. Where is Johnny now?

You guys could not be much more hypocritical. But I know you will try. Now stick together.
