Do you think it would be justified to spend 4-5 K to do a first rate sleeving job on a AYA Senior ( Purdey style locks) 12 ga shotgun? The ribs are brazed, so they would be destroyed in the removal and would need to be replaced with non- original ribs.
If the original gun could be bought” right” , would the final product price be justified as a “ rare” gun restoration, with appropriate value, or would the sleeved end result be considered just another Spanish sidelock?
Thank you for you responses in advance.
Best regards,
JBP

What you're going to get is different personal opinions, JB. Mine is, no. It won't really be a true restoration. IMHO, of course.

The current cost of sleeving is likely to exceed the price of a complete and probably as good if not better second hand gun.

So economically the answer is almost certainly “No” unless the gun is of great sentimental value to you or of extreme interest and rarity (such as Lady Meux’s hammer 28-bore)

Perhaps it would be better to find a second set of barrels and have them refitted to your action.

they didn't make a lot of Senior's, but still even best Spanish guns don't command that high of a price. You might be better to look for a used Purdey

What if the “buying right” price is $1500?

so you have a Aya Senior for $6500. If you like the gun and are content to use it for years, ok but doubtful you would get your $ back, but it's your money and your life enjoy it the way you want. I think everyone that can, should own and shoot a Purdey (Beesley action) once in their life.
