It is lost on some people, no one in particular in mind, that recoil pads are installed on shotguns very often to gain LOP. Out of all my vintage doubles I only have one that is long enough without a leather lace-on pad.

Shooting a gun that is way too short for you is exponentially worse than adding a few ounces to the butt end, IMO. Many longer barreled doubles are a bit muzzle heavy and a few ounces added to the butt improves the handling immensely.

Total weight is insignificant compared to MOI. My big MX8 weighs over 9 lbs. and I can kill any close, fast rabbit target they can throw with it.
