The scope seems to be Lyman Alaskan, which normaly has the windage adjustment knob on the right side. So it crossed my mind - not for the first time - that this might as well be a reversed image of a standard right-hand Mannlicher Schoenauer ...

Raimey,
Can you post the whole text with the photo? Jani may be correct that the image is reversed or the rifle may be a "new" custom rifle. The mention of Mathieu in the part of the text that is visible may support this possibility.

Phys Doc, you are correct that a scope with crosshairs installed backward will work but adjusting it will be very confusing. My nephew asked me to sight in a rifle he couldn't make work. He had the scope turned over too.

Mike, this is the only picture available to me and Raimey. I was there yesterday when my friend Rok kindly took the picture from the book and there is no Mannlicher Schoenauer text in it, just this image. As for the scope, I used such mounting on my Winchester 1895 only because the knob on right side was no good for loading and aiming over open sights. https://www.doublegunshop.com/forum...;Main=41544&Number=511471#Post511471Cheers, Jani

Jani,
You knew you were mounting it "turned over" and why. Also you had enough experience to avoid confusion when the bullet impact changes were different than markings on the scope's turret.
