I am deeply interested in such a rifle but the only one I ever saw was in a book; Rifles - A Modern Encyclopedia, By Henry M. Stebbins (Stackpole Books, 1958). On page 202 there is a photo of "A left-hand bolt-action job by Pachmayr", showing a Mannlicher-Schoenauer clearly converted to left hand.
Can anyone give me more information on these and/or similar Mannlicher-Schoenauer conversions to Left Hand? Thank you.
With kind regards,
Jani

I've never seen a left-hand MS but then I'm not a lefty so don't pay attention to them that much. I looked at one the other day that said something like "Berlin Automobile Model" on the left rail, anyone know about these?

There is a, what looks like to me, a factory left-hand Mauser here in town, sorry no help from here.

Michael, P.O.Ackley made/sold at least some factory-made true left-hand Mausers, back in the '50s IIRC. Doubt if he converted any M-Ss though, or at least I've never heard of any.

Austrian gunmaker Miedler https://shop.miedler-waffen.at/Mannlicher-Schoenauer is making Mannlicher Schoennauer rifles to order. Price of a complete rifle is around 7k euros (about 8.2k US dollars). When asked about a left hand version the answer was no problem. Now I have a problem ...

Jani

A new made custom Mannlicher Schoenauer is not really a "conversion". In my considered, but un-solicited, opinion the easiest way to convert an original MS is to melt it down and forge the metal into a block and start over (just a little humor).

Mike, I didn't know you were such a joker smile

Since no conversion - Pachmayr or other - came to light in over a dozen years, I consider lowering my standard a bit.

But since the reproduction is somewhat pricey, I will take one of my vintage Schoenauers to my Ferlach trained gunsmith and listen carefuly what he will have to say about such a conversion.

Cheers,
Jani

Jani,

Are you able to upload the picture of the conversion from the book?

I have one on Stebbins’ books but it is the on on pistols.

Parabola,

I can do that when my friend returns from holidays.

Here is the book: https://www.ebay.com/itm/306338223156

This was a common gun book and I'm rather sure some other members have it too.

Cheers,
Jani

Jani,
I joke a lot, some people don't understand it and just think I don't know anything. In a conversion, I don't think the magazine would give much trouble as long as you kept the same cambering. If you find someone to try, I suggest you give him and old Commission mod 88 action for his initial efforts at trying to make the bolt work through the split bridge. That sacrifice would 't be as expensive as an MS. You should evaluate what you are looking for in a conversion. If you are really mostly interested in the spool magazine, I believe it would be easier to splice the magazine assembly and selected sections of the receiver from a Greek Mod 1903 MS to an action that already has the camming and locking surfaces set up for left-handed operation. BTY, even though I shoot right handed (right hand master eye) I am naturally left handed, so I understand your problem. Good luck,
Mike
