Well,
The 6.5x70R cases at Buffalo Arms Bertram Box of 20 showed up and they were not what I expected. The box had a handwritten 6.5 x 70R on it. I measured them, 10.53mm rim dia , 8.97mm dia down next to the rim, and 8.90mm dia at the bullet end, 8.04mm inside dia at the bullet end. This has no taper like my casting has.

The dimensions given by Bruce for 6.5x70R match my casting. Guess I send the brass back, it's the wrong stuff.

Case - 69.93mm
Rim - 10.6mm
Base - 9.00mm
Neck - 7.30mm

Don't send the brass back,they sent you the right brass,but in an unformed state. The important dimension is the head dia.,and it is correct(it has to be a little smaller than the chamber,or it won't go in),the rim dia. is OK too.What you have to do now it to size it enough to chamber, and then fireform it.I don't know what dies you have avaliable,I can't make reccommendations of which to use.If you can wait until you get 6.5x70 dies,that would be easiest.Lubricate the cases and size them in the seating die,then run them through the sizing die.They should chamber,then,but if not don't despair.My late friend Gene Enterkin,wrapped such cases with one layer of bond paper(where marks showed the interference was)and drove them into the chamber,protected by a piece of wood,with a hammer.They were then driven out with a rod or dowel from the muzzle end. After this,they can be fireformed without problems.BTW,if there is not enough intereference after sizing to keep them from chambering(if they are tight but can be forced in),go ahead and fireform them.A funny thing about fireforming is that while filling in the loose places,it seems to lossen up the tight places, sometimes.I believe,though that the FL sizing will make the extra steps unnecessary. I hope this helps.

Hey, Mike, The American: Funny you should mention Gene Enterkin. His shop, The Powder Horn, was here in my city, and a friend and I had a long discussion last week after church about our many visits to his shop and some of the nice old guns we bought (and sold) there. He was always helpful with reloading for the old obsolete rounds, and I remember seeing him wrap the paper once around a case and "whop" it into the chamber of an old drilling or combo gun to get it squeezed down enough to load and fireform. That's a very useful tip.

Since thats the case,we may have met in his shop.I lived in Columbus 20 years,until I "retarded" and moved 60 miles away.Do you live in Cusseta or Columbus? Pat Felix bought Genes shop and operates Felix Custom Guns there.He doesn't custom load ammo,but does good work,especially saving broken stocks. Hello Der Ami,
It's been a while, and I I went back to your post about getting 6.5x70R dies. Do you have any ideas where I could get them? How do they work to squeeze down the straight brass case that I got from Bertram Bullet Co. down to the tapered size that the chamber needs? I did figure out the shotgun side ...which is 16 gauge, needs a shorter 2.5 inch shell...not so common.

If Buffalo Arms doesn't have them, CH4D can make you a set. If you can "worry" them down small enough to chamber, you can fireform them to fit. Sizing in 25-20 sizing die with the expander assy removed might do it. You might have to start with 32-20 die.The cases will look "funny" with a very long neck,they will come back in fireforming.If still too tight, the wrap in paper and drive it in trick may work. Once fireformed,you may be able to load with 6.5x57 or 55 dies by neck sizing.You just wouldn't screw the die all the way down.
