It was the creation of the Euro that doomed the Spaniards.
They had an artificial advantage for their gunmakers until then.
When they lost that, Basque makers had an immediate 40% price hike, and that ended cheap Spanish hand made doubles.

Out there doing it best I can.

I suspect ALL those were serious factors.

BUT: Do we know if AyA are still in business or not? I have heard nothing here in England, and The Field magazine had a detailed write-up of a new AyA model selling at £19,000 / $25,000. ASI are the British importers, since 1958.

They are basically out of business. They have a few guns to hopefully deliver, which I doubt. They were a good company until Alex A. took over control. Maybe someone will buy them out. Hope so.

A contact who was at the British Game Fair yesterday confirms that AyA have a new distributor in England, and that the factory is now back in business after a short break.

So sounds like something has been going on, hopefully all now resolved. Do we have members living in Spain who can investigate??

You could try Cole Haugh. Google him.

Best,

Bingo. The stupid euro and the EU f’d it all up.

“Spain is a significant recipient of EU funds, expecting to receive around €140 billion from EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funds by 2026 to aid its post-pandemic recovery, and is also a large beneficiary of cohesion funds, receiving €35.5 billion for 2021-2027. “

200 Billion Euros or AyA.

Very interesting. I was there and saw ASI had Rizzini front and centre, yet the penny didn't drop that AyA's name wasn't visible: I just thought it was down to poor stand design related to someone on the Game Fair staff having the bright idea of putting the posher exhibitors in large brown tents.
I like Rizzini's guns, but evidently not enough to stop to see what might be new.
Did your contact say who the new AyA distributor is?

Manor Guns of London. Their website confirms it as the 'exclusive distributor'.
