Can someone please tell me the model of this Lyman sight? It's mounted on a Haenel mauser rifle. Top piece swings with the direction that the bolt handle touches it when ejecting and chambering a round.
Thanks.

Thank you. Doc. Is it rare? I can't even find a photo of a Lyman 22.

It is pretty rare, according to Nick Strobel's book, it was patented in 1896 and was discontinued in 1919. It is rare, partially because the Lyman 36 came out in 1907. The 36
was a better sight and didn't involve the removal of much if any wood.

I imagine that adjusting windage on the Lyman 22 was a real pain, and it was very easy to lose the screw. Consequently, every now and then you see a rifle with the base
of the Lyman 22 but not the sight stem. Should you find one in that condition, I've made a couple of stems for a friend and could probably make another.

PhysDoc, reading your response prompted me to search for more information on Lyman 22 and 36 sights. In my search I found your post from several years ago where you describe making parts for the Lyman 22 sight. I learned a lot from that post so I’m sharing the link here in case others are interested.

Doc mine has a screw on the underside of the bar that allows the windage adjustment. Not precise as one loosened it moves freely.

First of all, thanks Mike, I really appreciate all the threads you’ve put up, allowing us to see some really great rifles.

I think yours is the first rifle I have seen with a totally intact Lyman 22. I know I’ve seen a few with just the base.
