Does anybody have any Quality Cartridge 400 Whelen headstamped brass laying around they are willing to part with. Would like to get 40 or 60 pieces if I can scrounge them up.

Thanks,
Bryndon

Bryndon. did you think about getting 35 Whelen cases and have the 35 changed to 400? I understand when you go into some foreign countries with a rifle, the ammo has to match the gun.

Unfortunately the shoulder on 30-06 and 35 Whelen is smaller than the 400. The brass quality cartridge makes is cylindrical basic brass and must be formed in my dies and then fire formed. Any cylindrical basic 30-06 family cases would work. Quality Cartridge has made the 400 brass fairly recently and I thought a WTB ad for it would be the best chance for getting what I need.

I don’t plan to leave the country with my rifle. I don’t even really care about the headstamp, but I do care about the shoulder diameter being .458” to avoid headspace issues

Unfortunately QC hasn't made any in some time. While the shoulder is an issue sizing up and then running through your die should not be a problem. Seat a bullet to the lands and fireform. I have both 35 Whelen brass and QC 400, no issues with either.

Great to know! Thanks!

Any recommendations for steps? Can I go from .358 to .375 then through the 400 Whelen dies? Haven’t done any sizing like this

.35>37, .37>416, neck size with your 400 Whelen dies, fireform. Lots of info on the net, may/may not have to anneal to size up. The sacrificial case is your friend, so is a stuck case puller!
